Sorry, you'll have to wait a year to hear Chris Pratt go, 'It's a-me, Mario!'

Universal and Nintendo have delayed the Super Mario Bros. movie till 2023.

We know you've been pining away in your room, waiting for the day Chris Pratt will finally get to say such iconic lines as "It's a-me, Mario!" and "Wahoo!" but you're going to have to wait a bit longer than expected.

The upcoming animated movie adaptation of the Super Mario Bros. video games, featuring the voice of Pratt as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, has been delayed after an initial scheduling for theaters this December. The film will now open next spring.

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto broke the harsh news to gamers and fans of cartoonish Italian accents alike on Monday night. "After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America," he said in a statement released on Nintendo's Twitter channel. "My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait."

So, less "wahoo!" and more "womp womp."

Directed by Teen Titans Go! To the Movies duo Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the film's cast also flaunts Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

Charles Martinet, the original Mario voice actor, will also have a role to play.

So, unless you want to look out for Pratt's voice in Jurassic World: Dominion or Thor: Love and Thunder or The Terminal List Amazon series, it's time to slide down one of those green warp pipes and go back into hibernation until the fateful day when the actor can twirl his animated mustache for us on screen.
