First live-action Pinocchio trailer teases Cynthia Erivo's 'When You Wish Upon a Star'

See glimpses of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Jiminy Cricket, Luke Evans' the Coachman, and more.

Tom Hanks wished upon a star and got Cynthia Erivo.

Among the many reveals that come in the first trailer for Disney's live-action Pinocchio that dropped on Tuesday is a first look at Erivo's Blue Fairy and her magical pipes. The Broadway and screen star, who, don't forget, will be defying gravity as Elphaba in the upcoming Wicked movies, gives a taste of her version of the classic tune "When You Wish Upon a Star."

The song was originally written by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington for Walt Disney's 1940 animated film Pinocchio, and it has since become a common jingle used to open many of the studio's movies.

The Pinocchio trailer sees Hanks as the live-action version of Geppetto, the humble wood carver who builds the Pinocchio puppet (voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth), which is then brought to life by the Blue Fairy's magic.

Viewers also get glimpses of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's CG Jiminy Cricket, Luke Evans as the Coachman, and Oscar nominee Lorraine Bracco as a new character for the film, Sofia the Seagull.

The cast is rounded out by Keegan-Michael Key as "Honest" John, Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Señor Stromboli, and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

And lest we forget, this Pinocchio is the one from director Robert Zemeckis, and not the Guillermo del Toro-helmed stop-motion animated Pinocchio coming to Netflix.
