Netflix's explosive Malcolm & Marie trailer says film is 'the story of love'

Netflix is finally giving us a glimpse at the much-anticipated Malcolm & Marie starring Zendaya and John David Washington.

The black-and-white film made headlines the minute it was announced given how it was the first major project produced during the coronavirus lockdown.

Written and directed by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, the trailer shows Zendaya and Washington going through emotional highs and lows, with a note that the film is "not a love story," it's "the story of love."

Taking place within one location, Malcolm & Marie depicts a filmmaker fresh off a successful premiere of his new movie running into trouble with his girlfriend as revelations about their relationship begin to surface.

Netflix acquired the film at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival for a reported $30 million, and is releasing it on Feb. 5, just in time for Academy Awards consideration.
