Come on, Margot, let's go party! Here's your first look at Margot Robbie as Barbie

Do we need to talk about this hair, though? We need to talk about this hair, though.

Greta Gerwig's long-gestating Barbie movie finally has some imagery to go along with its blonde ambition. Enter Margot Robbie, looking not so plastic but still fantastic, sitting behind a pink convertible.

Warner Bros. Pictures tweeted the first-look photo along with Barbie's release date, July 21, 2023.

First thoughts? The hair's not really giving "Barbie" so much as, well, "Margot Robbie hanging out," but then again, not every Barbie is an '80s businesswoman taking a very important call. And it's too early to start nitpicking, anyway, but ... really hoping there's an '80s business-Barbie somewhere in this movie.

That'll probably be up to Gerwig, who is directing Barbie and co-wrote the screenplay with partner Noah Baumbach. Now Gerwig and Baumbach, auteurs of sublime cerebral fare such as Lady Bird and The Squid and the Whale (respectively), may not be the names you first associate with the world's most famous fashion doll and her wide range of accessories. So who knows what to expect? Robbie might just Lady Bird out of that moving convertible in a hot pink minute.

Robbie, who is also a producer on the film, will be joined by by Ryan Gosling, playing Barbie's serially unemployed boyfriend Ken. The all-star cast also includes Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and Kate McKinnon.

Barbie and her Dream Camper of costars will arrive in theaters July 21, 2023.
