Star Wars actors from Mark Hamill to Pedro Pascal celebrate May the Fourth

Star Wars Day, which falls on May 4 — as in, "May the Fourth be with you" — is an important holiday for fans of the galaxy far, far away. But it's uniquely significant for those who've been a part of creating this massive, sprawling cosmos.

Actors from across the franchise commemorated Star Wars Day by sharing thoughts and memories on social media Tuesday.

"I'm beginning to accept the fact that I'll probably never do another movie that gets its own day," Mark Hamill, the man behind Luke Skywalker, tweeted.

Other stars marking the day include Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin, the title character of The Mandalorian), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan), and Tom Wilton (creature and droid puppeteer).

"Category is: helmet head realness," Pascal wrote as a caption to a behind-the-scenes image from The Mandalorian.

"Star Wars has always been about family, friends, and fans," Suotamo tweeted. "I've met so many outstanding people, married my incredible wife, and helped raise our two beautiful children while playing Chewbacca. Here's to many more #StarWarsDay celebrations ahead!"

Lourd, whose mother, Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), died more than four years ago, shared a photo of her baby son, Kingston Fisher, wearing a Leia onesie and watching Star Wars.

Dawson, after years of fan casting, made her debut as a live-action Ahsoka in The Mandalorian season 2. On Tuesday, she shared an image on Instagram of her boyfriend, Senator Cory Booker, holding a toy lightsaber with the words "Cory-Wan Kenobi" written on the hilt.

"I just turned 8 years old when the original Star Wars came out," Dawson wrote. "It was a movie that changed me. It inspired me; it made me believe in the power of underdogs in a righteous cause; it affirmed to me the limitless strength of committed friendships, and expanded my sense of the magic and mystery of the universe. And yes, The Force spoke to my burgeoning sense of faith and the connectedness of all things."

Wilton, who worked on various Star Wars movies, shared an image of his Colonel Aftab Ackbar character from The Rise of Skywalker.

"Mon Cal like my father was before me," he tweeted. "May the fourth be with you! Hugs and kisses, your very own Colonel Aftab Ackbar. (Show a Mon Calamari some love go on you know you want to)."

Dee Tails, another actor behind a Star Wars creature, shared an image of Slowen Lo from The Last Jedi.

Star Wars filmmakers, too, shared in the joy of the day.

Director Rian Johnson shared a behind-the-scenes video from The Last Jedi of special effects supervisor Chris Corbould testing the practical effects used for a scene on the island of Ahch-To.

"Happy #maythefourthbewithyou to all the incredible technicians who pull stuff like this off over the years, and to the best fans in the galaxy," Johnson tweeted.

Robert Rodriguez, who directed episodes of The Mandalorian, also shared a behind-the-scenes image, this one of him posing next to Grogu, a.k.a. Baby Yoda.

Another director on the series, Peyton Reed, showed off "a little piece of mail" he received in 1978 "from the original STAR WARS Fan Club."
