Lady Gaga 'absolutely' debuting new music on Joanne world tour

Lady Gaga didn't drop "The Cure" as a one-off quick fix for pop music; the Grammy winner has revealed plans to heal fans yet again with another round of new material on her upcoming Joanne world tour.

Appearing as a guest on the July 4 episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, the "Million Reasons" singer discussed her intention to debut fresh music during the traveling production, which kicks off Aug. 1 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"Absolutely. It's going to be really fun and I'm really excited," Gaga told cohost Katie Atkinson when asked if she'd consider performing new tunes while on the road. "The stage [for the tour] has been designed and it's being built. We've been building the story of the show since the Super Bowl, and we're beginning to delineate where we want choreography, what songs I'd like to play at the piano, and lighting is a big thing this year. The stage is very different from anything we've ever done before."

Gaga additionally spoke about recently wrapping filming of her first major movie role in Bradley Cooper's remake of A Star Is Born, claiming that stepping into character as Ally, an up-and-coming performer who bonds with a troubled industry veteran (Cooper) as she rises on the music scene, reminded her of her early days as a bar singer.

"I don't know that I realized how much it affected me, becoming [Ally] in the movie, until it was over," Gaga explained of the film, set for a theatrical debut on Sept. 28, 2018. "It brought me back to another time in my life. It also brought me to a different place, because there are some things about her and I that are different. I'm back now to being me and focusing on music. I had to focus on Ally and her music for the past couple months. It's a different thing."

She also confirmed that the film's soundtrack, which she composed, is comprised almost entirely of original recordings, saying, "It's all original. I believe there may be one or two songs that are covers, but they're not from the [1976 version]. I don't want to say a lot about the film because I'd love to save the juice of it for everyone to see. It's very special and we worked really hard on it all together."

Ahead of taking Joanne on the road with the tour — which supports her chart-topping album of the same name — Gaga will also revive her limited Dive Bar Tour concert series for a single gig in Las Vegas on July 13, after headlining three small venues in Nashville, New York City, and Los Angeles on the tour's first leg in October 2016, just ahead of Joanne's release.

"The Dive Bar shows last year, they were informed by the fact that the fans hadn't heard a lot of the material yet. So I approached them more like a sort of pseudo electropop underground moment, as opposed to just me at the piano," Gaga said of the impending show. "This time around, for the Dive Bar Tour, I intend for it to be even more intimate than it was the last time. I want to break the songs down and talk to the audience even more and sing the hell out of my songs."

Following the set, sponsor Bud Light will enlist two new artists to continue the Dive Barperformances into the future, with Gaga teasing, "It's a very diverse group, and everything that you're seeing at these dive bars are not going to be the same. Not the same types of artists, it's not connected in any way; it's all about celebrating diversity."

Still, Gaga said the Joanne world tour will also offer a deeply personal peek into her life and creative process.

"I put a lot of my soul into that record… and I'm looking forward to integrating that with my other songs to contextualize it in a way for the fans. I hope they are able to celebrate with me what Joanne is: a woman looking out, putting a hat on, and saying to herself, 'I'm about to go somewhere because I'm getting out of here. And I don't know where I'm going, but I'm out of here. I'm leaving. I'm not sure what will happen or if I'll even like it, but I don't care because I can't stay here,'" she remarked. "More than anything I just want my fans to feel a message of liberation that they can, at any point in time, change where they are in their life and move forward."
