Ben Platt 'excited' to release original music after Dear Evan Hansen departure

The Tony winner just signed a deal with Atlantic Records

Following in the footsteps of many a Broadway star before him, Ben Platt will go on to record original music after leaving the musical Dear Evan Hansen.

Platt announced his next chapter on Thursday, saying he has signed a deal with Atlantic Records. “I am beyond proud to be joining the Atlantic family, amongst a roster of legendary artists,” the Pitch Perfect actor said in a press release. “It has been a longtime dream to create original music; I am so excited to be working on this debut album and even more excited for the day I can share it with the world.”

Platt’s performance as the titular role in Dear Evan Hansen has earned him critical praise, a Drama League Award, and a Tony Award. He will depart the production on Nov. 19, he announced in August.

Atlantic has already had success in the Broadway world. Both the Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen original cast recordings were released under the label, debuting at the No. 12 and 8 spots on the Billboard 200 chart, respectively.

Billboard originally reported the news of Platt’s record deal.
