'No definite plans' for new Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett collaboration: source

Fans might have to wait a bit longer for Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga to go cheek to cheek once again.

Amid celebrations for receiving the Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize Wednesday night at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C., the 91-year-old jazz icon revealed his intention to re-team with Mother Monster for a new project. “I’m definitely going to do another song with Lady Gaga,” he told Billboard at the event, closing his statement by alluding to when fans can expect the duet to drop: “New Year’s Eve.”

When reached for comment, a source close to both artists told EW there are “no definite plans” for the pair to re-team in a professional capacity in the near future, though they “still want to collaborate more” when the time is right.

President Trump, on the other hand, could soon be on the receiving end of Bennett’s vocal talents.

“Washington is the greatest city in the greatest country in the world,” Bennett reportedly told journalists gathered at the ceremony, adding that he knows the 45th president “very well” and a performance for him is likely. “Sooner or later I’ll probably be doing something for him,” he added.

Bennett’s comments come just over three years after he and Gaga vaulted to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with their first joint album, 2014’s Cheek to Cheek. The studio set features covers of jazz standards performed by the duo, in addition to solo cuts sung individually. They later embarked on a co-headlining tour in support of the album, which ran for 36 dates throughout 2015.

This isn’t the first time Bennett has revealed his intent to replicate the success he found with Gaga on Cheek to Cheek. He discussed ongoing plans for a follow-up LP during an interview with Billboard last year: “She and I are talking about doing a second album,” he said. “There’ll be just wonderful songs that she and I both like… She’s busy right now, but at the beginning of next year we’ll start doing an album.”

Previously in October 2015, Bennett revealed to Vulture that he and Gaga would release a new album of Cole Porter renditions; Four months earlier, while giving a performance in Idaho, he announced that the album was slated to drop in late 2016.

Gaga, whose fifth solo album, Joanne, attained Platinum certification in the U.S. last month, has publicly supported Bennett over the years, first appearing alongside him on his 2011 album Duets II. She made a subsequent appearance on the 2016 birthday special Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best is Yet to Come, performing classics “The Lady is a Tramp” and “La Vie En Rose” in tribute to Bennett on the NBC broadcast.

In August, Bennett attended a New York City stop on Gaga’s Joanne World Tour, posing backstage for a photo with the Super Bowl LI halftime show headliner.
