Lana Del Rey says Radiohead is suing her: 'Their lawyers have been relentless'

On Sunday, numerous publications began reporting that Radiohead is suing Lana Del Rey over similarities between her Lust for Life song “Get Free” and the band’s “Creep.” That same day, Del Rey confirmed what’s happening.

“It’s true about the lawsuit,” Rey tweeted. “Although I know my song wasn’t inspired by Creep, Radiohead feel it was and want 100% of the publishing – I offered up to 40 over the last few months but they will only accept 100. Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court.”

Lana Del Rey, Kieron Menzies, and Rick Nowels are currently credited as the writers on “Get Free,” which many listeners have even likened to “Creep” on their own.

Reps for Del Rey declined to comment beyond the singer’s tweet, while a spokesperson for Radiohead could not immediately be reached for comment.

As Rolling Stone pointed out, Radiohead was in a similar situation with “Creep” — but on the receiving end of legal matters. Their 1992 song credited Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, the writers of “The Air That I Breathe” from the Hollies. A lawsuit was settled out of court when the band admitted similarities between the two songs.

Del Rey is currently on her world tour following the release of Lust for Life. The singer posted photos and video on social media of her first concert in Minneapolis on Sunday, which she’ll follow up with a performance in Denver on Tuesday.

“She is a very, very prolific songwriter,” Nowels had told EW of the album’s creation. “We wrote more than enough songs for the record.” He added that it all branched off the titular track, “Lust for Life,” sharing, “It was definitely ground zero for this album. As she was putting it all together and picking songs, it all kind of tied into this theme of ‘lust for life.’”
