Adele is unrecognizable as 'hero' Dolly Parton — see the transformation

Hello, it's… Dolly?!

On Tuesday, Adele paid tribute to Dolly Parton in a big way, dressing up as the country music icon and sharing the results on social media. Even sweeter was her caption: "The effortless queen of song, Dolly Parton! We love you! We wish We could possess an ounce of your ability. You were the hero of our night! A hero of my life. I'll always love you x."

It's not yet clear what the occasion was, but there's no doubt the 29-year-old superstar and her glam squad set fire to Adele's usual look to capture Parton's signature style. Wearing a long blonde wig dangling past her shoulders and blush as pink as her glittery pantsuit, Adele leaned into a guitar she seemed to be strumming like a Nashville natural.

Though Adele has experience in the transformation department — remember that time she pretended to be a drag queen impersonating herself? — this is the first time we've seen her channel a music legend in costume. Turns out the 9 to 5 star adores Adele just as much.

"Everyone loves Adele. With all my little nieces, it's all 'Adele this' and 'Adele that!' And I love how she does her makeup, and so I'm always saying to my little nieces, 'Can you fix my eyes like Adele?'" Parton, 72, told BBC News in 2016. "When I started that ['Head Over High Heels'] song, I had not planned to write that line. I was just thinking, 'This needs to be about a girl dressing up sexy, so she's got to have some makeup, and she's got to paint her eyes.' And all of a sudden it's like, 'And my eyes like Adele!'"

Parton also commented on Adele's Instagram post, saying "And I will always love you!" with three pink heart emojis.

Adele is taking a break from performing after suffering vocal cord damage on her world tour in 2017, and she reportedly told fans that she might retire from touring altogether, but she hasn't entirely escaped the spotlight. Earlier this month, the singer stopped by one of Céline Dion's shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Dion said of their time together, "I love her so much!!"
