Rami Malek finds lost photo of his Freddie Mercury pose alongside Paul McCartney

A seemingly lost photo of a touching moment between Rami Malek and Paul McCartney has been recovered.

The actor, who stars as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, detailed of his life-changing encounter with the former Beatle in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last month – which occurred following the icon’s London concert in December.

“It was absolutely bananas,” he gushed. “Then I got taken backstage like I was the actual Freddie Mercury.”

The two then posed for a photo together and, with the 76-year-old’s encouragement, Malek adopted Mercury’s signature on-stage gesture.

“Then Paul said to me, ‘I’m going to do my best Beatles pose, you do your best Freddie Mercury pose and let’s take a photo,’ and my arm shot straight up in the air,” he recounted.

Yet to Malek’s disappointment, he had not been able to find the image.

“Someone took a photo,” he added. “Wherever this photo is please… let’s find this thing. Let’s track it down.”

On Saturday, the actor shared his excitement via Twitter that the image had finally been unearthed, with the help of McCartney’s photographer daughter Mary.

“I will treasure this @PaulMcCartney. Thank you @maryamccartney,” he captioned the picture.

Malek has several good reasons for wanting something from the night to hold on to. As the 37-year-old shared with Kimmel, the show featured an encore in which McCartney invited his former bandmate Ringo Starr and The Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood to the stage.

As if that wasn’t enough music legends for one night, Malek also revealed his seatmate during the set just happened to be The Who’s Roger Daltrey.

Securing the sentimental image isn’t Malek’s only cause for celebration these days. The star is currently up for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Mercury.
