Richard Lewis honored in first Curb Your Enthusiasm episode since his death

"Curb" paid tribute to the late comedian, who appeared in 42 episodes of the show.

In his later years, Richard Lewis was best known for his role as a foil to Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm. So, it's only fitting that in the first episode after Lewis' death, the show paid tribute to the beloved comedian.

The show opened with a title card that simply read, "In memory of Richard Lewis, 1947–2024." It was accompanied by a headshot of the comedian.

Lewis died from a heart attack on Feb. 28 at age 76, his publicist, Jeff Abraham, confirmed. "His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship, and support and asks for privacy at this time," read a statement issued by Abraham.

David, a longtime friend and collaborator of Lewis, said, "Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life, he's been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I'll never forgive him."

Lewis returned to Curb Your Enthusiasm this year for its final season. A recent episode even had Lewis talking — rather, arguing — about his will. "I'm leaving you in my will," Lewis told David. "I'm tweaking it, and you're in it."

David responds angrily, insisting he doesn't need the money and doesn't want to be in the will.

"When I die, I want you to know how much I cared about you," Lewis says. "You're my best friend. You're getting it."

"Oh my god," David says, ending the argument. "F--- you."
