Shannen Doherty responds to Alyssa Milano's denial of Charmed firing: 'We told our truths'

Milano recently said she "did not have the power to get anyone fired" after Combs claimed she was behind Doherty's 2001 exit from the show.

An emotional Shannen Doherty addressed former costar Alyssa Milano's recent comments about her Charmed exit at MegaCon Orlando.

Alongside costars Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan during a panel discussion on Sunday, Doherty doubled down on claims that Milano had her fired from the cult series about witch sisters residing in San Francisco, as previously asserted by Combs in a December episode of Doherty's podcast.

"Holly and I, we were not mean on the podcast," Doherty said. "In fact, we went in and we edited out anything that we felt would cause more drama. We simply told the truth because the truth actually does matter. But we wanted to try to save you, the fans, from heartbreak as much as humanly possible."

Referencing her stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis, Doherty continued, “At this point in my life with my health diagnosis — I’m sorry if I start crying — with fighting horrific disease every day of my life, it is also incredibly important to me that the truth actually be told as opposed to the narrative that others put out there for me."

Doherty said she and Combs "told our truths and we are standing by our truths,” adding, “There is no revisionist history happening."

Doherty's Prue Halliwell was killed off in the season 3 finale and replaced by McGowan's Paige Matthews, a half-sister of Combs and Milano's Piper and Phoebe, respectively, for the remainder of its eight-season run.

While a guest on Doherty's podcast, Combs claimed a producer had informed her they were "backed into this corner" by Milano, who allegedly told them "it’s her or [Doherty]" and "threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment." (Doherty and Milano's decades-long feud has long been documented in the media, with both having acknowledged some clashes on set.)

Milano recently responded to the accusations during a separate panel at the same convention. “I will just say that I’m sad," she said. "And I don’t think it’s really that I’m sad for me or for my life or how it does or does not affect my life. I’m the most sad for the fans. I’m the most sad that a show that has meant so much to so many people has been tarnished by a toxicity that is still to this day, almost a quarter of a century later, still happening. And I’m sad that people can’t move past it. And I’m sad that we all can’t just celebrate the success of a show that meant so much to all of us."

Sharing the transcript on Instagram after the panel, Milano added that she "did not have the power to get anyone fired."

"I wish Holly, Shannen and Rose, peace and light in their personal and professional journeys. We all have bigger demons to fight," she said.
