Squid Game: The Challenge producers on season 2 plans

Here's where things stand on a potential second season for the Netflix reality competition.

There's only one episode left of Squid Game: The Challenge, but the producers are already eager to make more of Netflix's Squid Game reality show spinoff.

When EW asked executive producers Stephen Lambert and John Hay if there have been conversations about making a second season, Lambert confirmed it has been discussed.

"That's all in the hands of our dear friends at Netflix, if they have the desire whether they want to do it again," Lambert says. "If viewers love the show, and from what we understand, the people do, Netflix will publish numbers for the first week so it will be interesting to see what those numbers are like. If they're good, then who knows, maybe they'll want to do another season."

While a couple anonymous eliminated contestants allege they suffered "inhumane" conditions during filming (no official lawsuit has been filed, though letters of claim have been sent to co-producer Studio Lambert seeking financial compensation for the alleged injuries they sustained), the producers are proud to see the majority of reactions to the show have been positive.

"It's brilliant it's landed as well as it has, and we're really enjoying all the responses to it," Hay says. "It probably is too early to judge, but we would obviously love to [do season 2]. We think it's a game with potential, so let's see."

The season finale of Squid Game: The Challenge premieres Wednesday, Dec. 6 on Netflix.
