Survivor 46 host Jeff Probst shares intel on next season of the show

The first look at the season also features lots of off-the-island footage.

As one season of Survivor ends, another begins.

At the conclusion of Wednesday’s three-hour finale for Survivor 45, host Jeff Probst unveiled the official promo teaser for the next season of the reality franchise, Survivor 46. And while there are the typical gorgeous slow-motion shots of people rowing a boat, and swimming in water, and making strained facial expressions while doing very physical things in very physical challenges, the promo is also filled with something else — lots of footage from back home.

After EW went behind the scenes of the Survivor casting process for season 45, the show is now taking it to the next level by including video application and casting interview footage in the official teaser for season 46. That means we get killer guitar solos, brutal workout routines, random Survivor slot machines, and solid life advice like “stay positive, test negative.” You also get bold predictions such as “I am going to be the very first Persian winner of Survivor because honey, it is long overdue.”

EW spoke to Probst to get his first words about the new season, which premieres Feb. 28. “I know I say this every time, but I promise it’s true — I am so excited for Survivor 46!” says the host. “We haven’t even started editing yet and I’m already pumped.”

As for the contestants that will be competing for the million-dollar prize, the host and showrunner is equally enthused. “The cast of season 46 is a really unusual collection of smart, funny, eclectic humans,” says Probst. “You’re going to love so many of them. You’ll feel it in the opening moments of day one when we first meet everyone. There is a sense of humor and sense of fun that is going to make this group really entertaining to watch.”

EW was on location in Fiji for the start of filming and can report that the host’s words are not just promotional hot air. The players comprising the Survivor 46 cast are a high-energy bunch filled with vim, vigor, moxie, and lots of other words that normal people no longer use in regular everyday conversation. And you can see the energy reach right off the screen with some of the folks in the teaser. No wonder Survivor 46 is kicking off with two-hour episodes for the first two weeks before settling into 90-minute episodes for the rest of the season. You simply need that much time to contain this bunch!
