Joshua Jackson to make Broadway debut in Children of a Lesser God revival

Joshua Jackson will lead the first-ever Broadway revival of Mark Medoff’s Children of a Lesser God, producer Hal Luftig announced Tuesday. The play will mark the Broadway debut for Jackson, who currently stars as Cole Lockhart on The Affair. The revival, directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon, opens April 11, 2018 at Studio 54 in New York City, after beginning previews on March 22.

“At its essence, this is a poignant and profound love story,” Leon said in a press release. “Ever since these characters, Sarah Norman and James Leeds, first entered the public consciousness, we’ve been fascinated by their relationship to each other and the world around them.”

The 1980 original production of Children of a Lesser God, which won the Tony, inspired the lauded 1986 film adaptation of the same name.

The revival’s first production at the Berkshire Theater Group this summer also introduced deaf actress Lauren Ridloff. Ridloff will play Sarah Norman, a role that Phyllis Frelich and Marlee Matlin won an Tony and Oscar for, respectively. Ridloff, who directed New York’s first deaf rendition of The Vagina Monologues, can also be seen in the upcoming Julianne Moore drama Wonderstruck. Jackson has been seen recently off-Broadway in last year’s Second Stage production of Smart People, which Leon also directed.
