Dear Evan Hansen names two replacements for Ben Platt

Taylor Trensch and Noah Galvin will replace Platt following his exit in November

Dear Evan Hansen is welcoming two new Evan Hansens.

Following the Aug. 15 news that Ben Platt will end his Tony-winning run in the original musical on Nov. 19, many wondered who would next don the title character’s arm cast.

Tony-winning producer Stacey Mindich announced the next two replacements on Tuesday: The Real O’Neals’ Noah Galvin and Hello, Dolly!‘sTaylor Trensch.

“Evan is such a complex and rewarding role, and I can’t wait to see Noah and Taylor make it their own,” director Michael Greif said. “Nothing excites me more than working with young talent, and both young men are incredibly skilled and surprising performers.”

Galvin will step into the role first following Platt’s exit, performing as Evan Hansen from Nov. 21 through mid-January 2018. Trensch will then take over in January after the end of his run in Broadway’s revival of Hello, Dolly!.

In the wake of the casting news, several other original cast members announced the extension of their contracts. Laura Dreyfuss, 2017 Tony Award-winner Rachel Bay Jones, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Mike Faist, Michael Park, and Will Roland will all remain in the Tony-winning musical through May 2018. Kristolyn Lloyd will remain with the show through February 2018.

“We’re excited to welcome Noah and Taylor to our Dear Evan Hansen Family and I’m deeply joyful that our other original company members will remain in our show,” Mindich said in a statement. “As we embark on casting for the national tour and future productions of the show, it’s thrilling to begin discovering new, exciting talent for this unique role.”

While many had hoped Platt would remain in the role “for forever,” it’s time to start waving through a window at the next crop of talent who will make the role their own.
