Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham reluctantly team up in first Hobbs and Shaw trailer

Start your engines: Our first look at the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw is here.

After eight movies, the Fast and Furious franchise is taking a turn onto a new road, and the first trailer for Hobbs and Shaw is putting Dwayne Johnson’s former Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s rogue mercenary Deckard Shaw in the driver’s seat. The pair have had a rocky relationship ever since Shaw first popped up in Furious 7, and their first meeting resulted in a fist fight and a hospitalization.

But Hobbs and Shaw finds the two reluctantly teaming up against a seemingly unstoppable baddie: Idris Elba’s Brixton. Along the way, they’ll cross paths with Shaw’s sister Hattie, played by The Crown alum Vanessa Kirby, and be forced to form an unlikely alliance. Their journey will take them from Shaw’s hometown of London to Samoa, where Hobbs’ family has roots — and will further underscore the differences between the two men.

“Going in to Hobbs and Shaw, they still have a very biting chemistry, and they are polar opposites of each other in every sense of the word: from where they’re from, how they talk, what their likes are, what their philosophies are, what their fundamental core values are,” Johnson previously told EW. “But yet, they still have this magnetic attraction that happens between them that the universe brings them together, certainly against their will.

Deadpool 2’s David Leitch directs Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, which will hit theaters July 26.
