Shaft trailer assembles three generations of the 'black James Bond'

It was a Shaft family reunion on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night.

Richard Rountree (the original John Shaft), Samuel L. Jackson (from 2000's Shaft), and Jessie T. Usher (the new John Shaft Jr.) dropped by to introduce the first Shaft trailer, a look at the upcoming sequel from Ride Along director Tim Story.

That's a lot of Shaft.

The footage brings together three generations of Shaft, what Jackson's incarnation likes to refer to as "the black James Bond." The next Shaft, Usher's JJ, is a FBI cyber security analyst with a degree from MIT. When his best friend dies under unusual circumstances, he seeks out his absentee father (Jackson's Shaft), who has his own personal scores to settle, to help navigate the drug-riddled underworld of Harlem.

Regina Hall (Girls Trip, Support the Girls) plays JJ's mother, who fears her ex is dragging their son into his "bulls—" world. But John has some things to teach JJ, like how to be "an equal opportunity a—whooper."

Jackson, Roundtree, and Usher interrupted Kimmel's monologue to screen the trailer, though first they had to decide whether to show it on VHS (from Roundtree's era), Blu-ray (so 2000-and-late for Jackson), or digital (appropriate for Usher's 26-year-old self).

"What are you waiting for, motherf—?! Run it!" Jackman exclaimed.

Kenya Barris of black-ish and Alex Barnow of The Goldbergs wrote the script for this new take on Shaft, which also stars Alexandra Shipp, Matt Lauria, Titus Welliver, and Cliff "Method Man" Smith.

Shaft will open in theaters this June 14.
