Matt Smith is Charles Manson in first trailer for Charlie Says

You can now get a glimpse of Charles Manson and his “family” (read: cult) before their infamous crimes, “when everything was about love,” because the official trailer for Charlie Says is here.

Directed by American Psycho filmmaker Mary Harron, the movie focuses on the women who fell under Manson’s spell and later committed murders on his behalf. Matt Smith (The Crown) stars as Manson with Game of Thrones‘ Hannah Murray, Sosie Bacon, and Marianne Rendón playing his manipulated-into-murder followers.

The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival back in September, is set years after the shocking murders and, despite being confined to an isolated cellblock, the three women remain under Manson’s influence, believing their crimes were part of a cosmic plan. When a sympathetic grad student Karlene Faith (Merritt Wever) arrives at the prison to try to rehabilitate them, the psychological walls Manson constructed start to come down and the women are confronted with facing the crimes they committed.

Chace Crawford, Suki Waterhouse, and Kayli Carter also star.

Charlie Says opens May 10. Watch the trailer above.
