The final Pet Sematary trailer is all kinds of wrong

There’s a new Pet Sematary trailer to start your week off in a dark place.

It dials up the disturbing from a calm, quiet place, and finds a way to make the heartwarming kind of bloodcurdling. A child is getting a warm bath before bedtime. Then we see the skull staples.

The new adaptation of Stephen King‘s book opens nationwide on Thursday night, and its final trailer gives fans a sense of the irreversibility of bad choices.

Next-door neighbor Jud Crandall (John Lithgow) urges grieving father Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) to “undo it,” but the old-timer is the one who showed him the resurrection ground in the woods to begin with.

Heartsick mother Rachel Creed (Amy Seimetz) is a mashed-up mess of emotions upon laying eyes on her risen daughter, while her husband urges her to put all that aside and hug her daughter.

Then there’s 11-year-old Jeté Laurence, whose ability to change gears from sweetheart to monster mangles the emotions of the viewer. You want her to have a second chance. But this …?

Maybe Jud is right, and dead is better.
