Ron Howard sings an opera legend's praises in moving Pavarotti trailer

The new trailer for Oscar-winner Ron Howard’s biographical documentary Pavarotti begins with an off-camera voice asking the titular singer how he wants to be remembered in 100 years.

Though the Italian opera icon pauses and the footage cuts before he can answer, the clip that follows makes the case for him, celebrating his rise to prominence as a world-renowned vocalist who sold over 100 million records, as well as highlighting the personal anxieties that humanized him behind the scenes.

“Can you be sure you’ll hit the note?” a journalist asks him in the trailer. Without hesitation, he answers: “No. That is the beauty of my profession.”

From the same filmmaking team behind The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years, Pavarotti includes intimate footage from several of the late singer’s live performances as well as interviews and never-before-seen footage filmed prior to his death in 2007.

Pavarotti — produced by Nigel Sinclair, Brian Grazer, Howard, Michael Rosenberg, and Jeanne Elfant Festa — enters limited release via CBS Films on June 7. Watch the film’s full trailer above.
