Chucky gets a killer upgrade in new Child's Play trailer

What if the slasher icon Chucky wasn’t only able to manipulate his tiny doll hands but could also control drones, cars, and even the temperature? That is the scenario set up in the new trailer for the Child’s Play remake (out June 21). The promo clip also gives us our best look yet at the new Chucky.

“We didn’t want to do something that felt too familiar [to] the Chucky that was so successful in the original series,” producer Seth Grahame-Smith tells EW. “We knew we wanted to reintroduce a new design because we’re also reintroducing a new concept for what Chucky really is. That led us to, okay, if a company like Apple or Google or Amazon was going to design and market a child companion toy, what would that toy look like? What would its features be? And that drove the design more than anything.”

Child’s Play stars Aubrey Plaza as a mother who gives her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. The film costars Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry, and Mark Hamill, who voices Chucky. Child’s Play is written by Tyler Burton Smith and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Lars Klevberg.
