Jessica Biel commits an unthinkable act in The Sinner trailer

Biel returns to television in the USA Network's anthology series

What drives someone to kill? This question plagues Jessica Biel in the first trailer for The Sinner, USA Network's new close-ended anthology drama.

Biel stars as a young mother, Cora, who commits a startling act: While lounging on the sand with her family by a lake, she fatally stabs a man in the neck in full view of everyone. Even more haunting is that she doesn't know why. "I think there's something wrong with me," she tearfully tells her husband later in prison.

The act sparks an investigation by Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman), who tries to unravel the mysteries of Cora's past and psyche. Perhaps there's more to this story than she even realizes.

Also spotted in the Sinner trailer is Christopher Abbott, known for his roles on HBO's Girls and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, playing Cora's husband, Mason.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Petra Hammesfahr, The Sinner is also produced by Biel, the show's writer Derek Simonds, Michelle Purple, Charlie Gogolak, and pilot director Antonio Campos.

The anthology premieres on USA this summer. Watch the trailer above.
