Jane Lynch joins NBC pilot from Will & Grace co-creator

Jane Lynch has found her new TV gig — and it’s one we’re relatively happy about. The Glee vet has signed on Relatively Happy, a four-camera comedy written by Max Mutchnick and Jeff Astrof that is expected to be a companion for Mutchnick’s Will & Grace revival on NBC this fall.

Relatively Happy centers on brother and sister Henry (Saturday Night Live‘s Jon Rudnitsky) and Heather (Good Girls Revolt‘s Genevieve Angelson) Peppers, who find themselves under the same roof again after one of them is hit by tragedy. They quickly become integrated into each other’s lives for better — and worse.

The Glee alum has been cast as Henry’s boss and “father” figure Bobbi Martin, “a fast-living, Scotch-drinking, three-piece-suit-wearing, womanizing divorce attorney.” According to an insider, the role was originally written for Alec Baldwin; when Emmy-winner Jane Lynch was available, “Bobby” was changed to “Bobbi,” and the suit was taken in. If the show gets ordered to series, Lynch will be a series regular.

The pilot was written by Mutchnick and Astrof (Angie Tribeca) and will be directed by James Burrows, who is also executive-producing the pilot. The project comes from Too Mutch Ink and Barge Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
