Caitlyn Jenner has a change of heart on Trump: 'I'm coming after you'

Caitlyn Jenner has had a change of heart when it comes to President Trump and the Republican Party. Though she voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, she now tells Diane Sawyer his attacks on trans rights have changed her mind.

“Here’s the deal: Yes, I did vote for Trump, but here’s the deal-breaker with the Republican party and the deal-breaker is you mess with my community, you do the wrong thing with my community, you don’t give us equality and a fair shot, I’m coming after you,” she says in a clip from her upcoming 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer.

“It comes to all equality issues for the entire LGBT community, okay?” Jenner continues. “What we need is we need federal guidance, just like the previous administration said that it was okay to serve as a trans person in the military. We have front line people, okay, and I’m talking marines, trans guys, marines on the front line fighting for our country. I’m trying to get, especially the Republican party, to make a change.”

Asked about her meetings with Trump, Jenner recalls encountering the president at his inauguration. “I did say hi at a cocktail party. He wanted me to come play golf with him,” she says. “At that time, I thought it was a pretty good idea, but since Title IX, it’s not a good idea and so I won’t be playing golf with him.”

Jenner said during a 2016 episode of I Am Cait, “I think [Trump] would be very good for women’s issues,” and, “If Hillary becomes president, the country is over.” Shortly after, she clarified her comments, saying, “Honestly, I have not figured out Donald Trump… on so many of the issues, where he’s at.”

The reality star has been more critical of Trump since he became president. In February, she released a video on social media calling the political attacks against the LGBTQ community “a disaster” and reminding Trump how he promised to protect their rights.

Trump claimed on numerous occasions that he’d be a better ally to the LGBTQ community than Clinton and was photographed waving an upside-down rainbow flag with the words “LGBTs for Trump” at a rally. He once declared in accepting the Republican nomination, “As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology.”

Since taking office, he rolled back Obama-era guidelines on transgender bathrooms and signed an executive order that advocates slammed for rolling back LGBTQ rights in the workplace.

In another clip from Jenner’s interview with Sawyer, which airs during Friday night’s 20/20 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, she further clarifies where she now stands on same-sex marriage. “I am 100 percent behind gay marriage. Let’s clear that up right now,” she says.
