Game of Thrones: See Hodor use his skills for KFC

Hodor lives! OK, maybe not, but Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn is certainly keeping the character’s memory alive in his new commercial for KFC.

The ad, titled “Lunchtime Is Coming…,” is meant to promote new “Ricebox” offerings at KFC locations in the U.K. It kicks off with Nairn standing behind the fast food counter nervously anticipating hoards of hungry customers barging through the store’s doors as the clock strikes noon. Patron after patron orders “chicken and fries,” “chicken and fries,” forcing the Irish actor to repeat the phrase “hold the door”-style until it no longer means anything. Eventually, the phrase evolves into “chicken and rice.”

We can’t help but wonder if any of those new Riceboxes feature sausage. Shortly after the character’s death, we asked Nairn, who’s also an accomplished DJ, about his favorite “Hodor” line. “There’s one I really like in the current season where Meera and I are talking about sausages,” he said at the time. “This guy loves his sausages, clearly, and his bacon. His face lights up and starts talking about food.”

KFC’s reference to Game of Thrones — via similarities to Hodor’s death scene at the end of season 6 — is well-timed; the series returns to HBO for its penultimate season on July 16.
