Director John Singleton: Snowfall is a story that's never been told

The director joins his cast to talk about the FX series, premiering tonight

Director John Singleton feels FX’s new series Snowfall, which follows an undercover narc in 1983 during the advent of the crack crisis in Los Angeles, is a story long overdue to be told.

“Whenever you hear about these cocaine/ cop-turning-gangster stories, they’re always in Miami, in New York, or whatever,” the former Oscar nominee explained to EW at ATX Television Festival in June. “The whole story about what happened on the West Coast has never been dramatized before.”

“It was a dangerous, volatile time. But, it was fun,” he added.

Co-creator Dave Andron said the rags-to-riches narrative adds to the show’s appeal. “And the rise up is always a fun ride… all the sudden, people who hadn’t had money necessarily or power had money and power,” he explained. “And nobody knew it would turn out to be this plague.”

Watch the full clip above and catch the series premiere of Snowfall on FX Wednesday, July 5, at 10 p.m. ET.
