The Bold Type stars break down that Yoni egg scene

During The Bold Type‘s two-hour premiere, viewers were introduced to the trio of Kat (Aisha Dee), Sutton (Meghann Fahy), and Jane (Katie Stevens), best friends who work together at Scarlet Magazine (Think Cosmo). And in one scene in particular, viewers got to see just how close these friends really are.

Jane, in her attempt to explore her sexuality for an article she’s writing, tries out a Yoni egg — Google it, if you must. Long story short, her experiment doesn’t go as planned, and Jane ends up with a Yoni egg stuck in her vagina. That’s when Kat is there to help out a friend in need.

“Aisha and I are very close,” Katie Stevens says, with Dee adding, “She was wearing these Spanx, because we had to really shoot that scene. I had to reach my hand into the Spanx to get [the egg].” Yes, you read that right. “Even though it wasn’t really in her vagina, it was close enough,” Dee says, laughing.

Further explaining, Stevens says, “I had [the egg] right at the base of where my butt is in the Spanx. I’d move it around so that she’d actually have to find it.”

But the Yoni egg wasn’t the only thing Dee found while filming the scene. Director Victor Nelli Jr. decided to have a bit of fun with one particular take. “Right before we flipped the coverage around to Katie’s coverage, he was like, ‘I put a box of things under the ottoman,'” Dee says. “He was like, ‘One of the takes, I want you to get things out of the box.’ So I reached under the ottoman and pulled out car keys. There was a rubber ducky in there.”

Fahy adds, “And we didn’t know, so I’m trying to stay in the scene!”
