The Gifted: Meet the mutants in nine new promos

The Gifted, Fox's X-Men-adjacent TV series, gives off similar vibes to NBC's Heroes: a government figure works to hunt down superpowered people until he realizes his children possess abilities and goes on the run with his family. But instead of characters like the indestructible cheerleader and the time-traveling nerd, The Gifted brings us Marvel comic book characters like Blink, Polaris, and Thunderbird. These three, as well as the rest of The Gifted‘s main cast, take center stage in nine new character profiles, released on the show's official Twitter account on Thursday.

Jamie Chung, no stranger to comic book-based entertainment, plays Blink (above), a mutant with the ability to teleport through portals. She's joined by Emma Dumont as the mistress of magnetism, Polaris, who in the comics is the daughter of Magneto (played in the X-Men movies by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender).

Stephen Moyer (True Blood) plays District Attorney Reed Strucker. Reed and wife Caitlin (Amy Acker, Person of Interest) would go to any lengths to ensure the safety of their kids, budding mutants Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and her brother Andy (Percy Hynes White).

Elsewhere, we're introduced to Blair Redford as John Proudstar/Thunderbird, another classic X-Men character, and Sean Teale as Marcos Diaz/Eclipse. Both characters will come across the Strucker family as they flee from the government.

The final promo is of Coby Bell as Agent Turner, who mentions he's from the Sentinel Program. X-Men fans will recognize that as a reference to a comic-book staple: giant robots meant to hunt down the superheroes. X-Men: Days of Future Past introduced Sentinels, but early trailers for Gifted have only revealed smaller droids so far.

Bryan Singer, who helmed many of the X-Men movies, directed the pilot episode, a sneak peek of which is heading for San Diego Comic-Con.

The Gifted will make its television premiere Monday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
