Marvel's Inhumans stars talk coolest superpowers and acting challenges

The cast of Marvel's 'Inhumans' joined Dalton Ross in the EW Comic-Con Studio

The age-old debate about the best or coolest superpower has raged for decades. Now, the stars of ABC’s new series Marvel’s Inhumansare battling it out to settle the debate once and for all, at least amongst themselves.

The stars — including Anson Mount, Iwan Rheon, Serinda Swan, Eme Ikwuakor, Isabelle Cornish, Ken Leung, and more — joined EW’s Dalton Ross in the Comic-Con studio for a lengthy conversation about their highly-anticipated new series. Ross got down to brass tacks straight away, asking them who had the coolest superpower and what superpower they would want if they could have one in real life.

Answers ranged from super strength to flight to time travel, even the ability to teleport burritos to oneself.

Ross also asked Anson Mount about the challenges of playing a character who doesn’t speak. Mount plays Black Bolt, the King of the Inhumans, who has a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. Mount and Serinda Swan walked Ross through the intricate process of devising a unique sign language for their characters. “Our characters aren’t from Earth. They wouldn’t know ASL, so I worked with a sign consultant to learn the rules of ASL,” Mount explained, “but I wanted to make sure all the signing was different.”

Swan, who portrays Medusa, says she watched home videos from Mount with the signs broken down so she could study him to serve as his onscreen translator.

The show follows the Royal Family of Inhumans who are separated by a military coup and escape to Hawaii. After their surprising landing, they work to reunite and find a way to return to their home. Marvel’s Inhumans will first debut in IMAX on Sept. 1 before premiering on ABC on Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET.
