James Corden sings musical takedown of Trump's trans military ban

'Trump's got hate for me and you,' the host sings.

The late-night television cycle on Wednesday was dominated by takedowns of Donald Trump’s ban on transgender service members in the U.S. military. Unlike Stephen Colbert’s “f— you” to the president or The Tonight Show‘s stand-up comic Patti Harrison, James Corden took a more musical approach.

Remixing “L-O-V-E” as “L-G-B-T,” the host of The Late Late Show sang and danced his way through lyrics that laid out Trump’s real position on LGBT rights. The president may have claimed he’d “fight” for the community on the campaign trail, but Corden sings, “‘L,’ he doesn’t care for lesbians. ‘G,’ he thinks two men should just be friends. ‘B,’ to his dumb knowledge is just a phase in college. ‘T,’ he finds confusing so the army’s now refusing trans women who only want to serve, trans men who want rights we all deserve.”

He concluded the verse, “POTUS thinks it’s unsavory. Patriots who know real bravery, Trump’s got hate for me and you.”

In a series of tweets posted to his account on Wednesday morning, Trump claimed transgender service men and women would be a “disruption” to the military,” which he further asserted would be “burdened with [their] tremendous medical costs.”

“This ban only saves that budget 0.04 percent,” Corden sings. “How is their ‘disruption’ worse than Trump’s corruption? Why’s it such a crisis, thousands willing to fight ISIS?”

The host ended on a positive note, reminding the trans community, “We have love for all of you.”

Corden also addressed Trump’s Twitter proclamation during his opening monologue for the show. “This is unusual,” he said. “Usually when Trump wants to keep someone out of military service, he just fakes a doctor’s note saying he has a foot injury. It worked fine for him during Vietnam.”

He also noted a report from The Washington Post, which cited a 2015 study from the Defense Health Agency, that stated the military spends five times more money on Viagra than it does for the medical costs for transgender soldiers. “So Trump thinks transgender soldiers aren’t normal, but 71-year-old men with full-blown erections are,” he said.
