Michael Sheen, David Tennant to star in apocalyptic comedy Good Omens

The Amazon series is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

Michael Sheen and David Tennant are teaming up to avert the apocalypse.

The British actors have been cast in Good Omens, the six-part Amazon series based on Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel about an angel and a demon who have second thoughts about the Final Judgment. Gaiman confirmed the news on Twitter.

Sheen, whose credits include Showtime’s Masters of Sex and the Underworld movies, will play the fastidious angel Aziraphale, while Doctor Who and Jessica Jones star Tennant will portray Crowley, a hard-living demon.

In a statement to Variety, Sheen said, “I first read Good Omens as a teenager and it’s been one of my favourite stories ever since. To be part of the team entrusted with bringing it alive on screen is a bit of a dream come true to be honest. To work alongside Neil, who I think is one of the greatest storytellers of all time, is incredibly exciting. And, just like the rest of the world, I’m a huge fan of David’s so I relish trying to save it with him.”

Gaiman, whose work also inspired the recent TV series American Gods and Lucifer, penned all six episodes of Good Omens and is serving as showrunner. The series is being produced in conjunction with the BBC.

Representatives for Sheen, Tennant, and Amazon did not respond to EW’s request for comment.
