Jerry Seinfeld and Jerry Lewis recently filmed an episode of Comedians in Cars

'If you don't get Jerry Lewis, you don't understand comedy,' Seinfeld said on Instagram

Hollywood is still grieving the loss of Jerry Lewis, the pioneering comedian, filmmaker, and fundraiser who passed away this weekend at the age of 91. On Monday, Jerry Seinfeld used social media to pay tribute to the man who elevated slapstick.

“As I’ve said many times, if you don’t get Jerry Lewis, you don’t understand comedy,” Seinfeld shared on Instagram. “Spending an afternoon with him a couple of months ago in Vegas for Comedians in Cars was a comedy life moment for me.”

The web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which moved from Crackle to Netflix earlier this year, features the Seinfeld co-creator/star in conversation with a fellow comedian while taking a vintage car for a spin and pit-stopping for caffeine. Season 9, which featured Kristen Wiig and Norm MacDonald, aired earlier this year. Netflix has not yet set a premiere date for season 10, which presumably would contain the Lewis episode.

Celebrities ranging from Jimmy Kimmel to Carl Reiner to Ellen DeGeneres also expressed their condolences on Twitter.
