Liam Payne rocks a One Direction hit for James Corden's boy band riff-off

The band is still not getting back together (yet), but Liam Payne performed a special One Direction throwback on The Late Late Show Wednesday night with James Corden. The TV host had a hot take for the singer — boy bands are better than solo artists — which led to another installment of Corden’s a cappella riff-off and a duet of “Best Song Ever” from Payne’s own days in a boy band.

Backed by Corden’s resident a cappella group, The Filharmonic, the performance was the big finish to a sing-off that began with the late-night personality belting *NSYNC’s “Tearin’ Up My Heart.”

Payne, who’s making a name for himself separate from One Direction, obviously rocked a set list of solo jams, including George Michael’s “Faith,” his own hit “Strip That Down,” and a stage-stealing, hip-swaying rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “The Shape of You.”

Payne released his big summer jam with producer Zedd, called “Get Low,” back in July. He also told BuzzFeed in a recent interview that One Direction will likely “reunite at some point in the future.” “We have to,” he added. “I mean we’ve got an album we haven’t even toured yet, and I want to write some more songs as well with the boys.”
