Who shot Neal Gamby?

That’s the central mystery of Vice Principals‘ second and final season. Ahead of Sunday’s return, Danny McBride and Walton Goggins stopped by EW: The Show to preview what’s to come.

“It’s about hunting down who shot him,” Goggins, who plays Lee Russell, says of McBride’s character. “It can be the person sitting in this chair or any number of other people in the cast. Danny and I kind of talk about it similarly, but differently: I think season 1 is about who these guys are and season 2 is about why they are who they are.”

Adds McBride, “Season 1 is crime. Season 2 is punishment. That’s what it’s all about.”

Vice Principals, which also stars Georgia King and Busy Philipps, airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO. Watch McBride and Goggins in the clip above.
