The Mick gets a taste of prison in season 2

The Pemberton family might not have a house anymore after little Ben (Jack Stanton) accidentally burned it down at the conclusion of season 1, but they do have each other. Unfortunately.

Season 1 of this raunchy family comedy, created by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia alums Dave and John Chernin, saw messy Mickey (Kaitlin Olson) playing babysitter to her wealthy sister’s three kids — but now that their mom is in prison, there’s even more pressure on Mickey. “She’s trying to figure out how to balance taking care of them and having a life of her own,” Olson says of season 2. “Who knows if she’s trying to just prove that she can or because she actually cares about them?”

Season 2 picks up with the family — plus Alba (Carla Jimenez) and Jimmy (Scott MacArthur) — bouncing around trying to find a new place to live. “The Pembertons, you think they might be down in the dumps, but they’re living in a five-star hotel and burning through their money at an alarming rate,” Dave Chernin says.

Case in point: Mickey orders probably the most expensive drink on the menu in the exclusive clip below. But Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia) and Chip (Thomas Barbusca) — you know, the ones who actually have the money — aren’t happy about it.

“Mickey, it was one thing when you were squatting in our mansion, but now you’re costing us money,” Sabrina says as she holds onto the giant, alcoholic slushie. Then they decide to have some fun with it: “I’ll tell you what: You can have the drink, but you have to lick it from a saucer like a cat,” Chip proposes.

Alba, though, still gets to drink — but only because her drunk behavior annoys Mickey. “I think Mickey has really created a monster with Alba,” John says. “She doesn’t even know what to do with Alba, who is pretty far gone when we start season 2, and then we slowly rein her back in.”

“Alba’s turned into a bit of a trainwreck,” Olson adds. “I think she thinks Mickey’s got it all figured it out, this carefree type of life, and she takes it way too far, to the point where Mickey is like, ‘That’s not how I do things, stop copying me!'”

And the kids — well, the kids have a lot to deal with now, especially since it’s been revealed that Chip’s dad isn’t actually Chip’s dad, which will be addressed early on in the season. Oh, and both their parents — biological or not — are in prison, where they all go on a field trip.

“They have different experiences in prison,” Dave says of the Pemberton children. “But no one takes to the lifestyle more than Young Ben. He gets a nice, guided tour of a maximum security penitentiary. It’s a summer camp-type experience for him.” Which means? “He comes out with a little souvenir,” Dave teases. “He’s changed, but he’s unscathed for the most part.” If he can survive a house fire, he can survive anything, right?

The Mick season 2 debuts Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
