Jon Hamm joins Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett adaptation, Good Omens

Mad Men star Jon Hamm has joined Good Omens, the upcoming six-part miniseries based on the cult novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

Hamm will portray the archangel Gabriel, the messenger of god, who appears only briefly in the book but whose role had been far more prominent in the never-written sequel.

Gabriel is the antithesis of the buttoned-up bookkeeping angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen). “He is everything that Aziraphale isn’t: He’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed,” Gaiman, who is also the showrunner on the series, said in a statement. “We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act. We were even more fortunate that he’s a fan of the books and a remarkable actor.”

Good Omens follows Aziraphale and a demon, Crowley (David Tennant) attempting to prevent the apocalypse, even if they may have accidentally misplaced the antichrist. The television adaptation, developed for both Amazon Video and the BBC, is expected to premiere on Amazon in 2019.
