Miley Cyrus performs moving Tom Petty tribute with dad Billy Ray Cyrus

'You belong somewhere you feel free'

In the latest of a long string of tributes to the late Tom Petty, Miley Cyrus took the Tonight Show stage with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and brought down the house with a country-flavored cover of "Wildflowers."

Cyrus, who grew up in the industry, previously performed the cover on The Howard Stern Show. She explained, "It's just really hard for me, watching those people that I grew up with leaving. The reason why I chose this song is because it's hopeful. It's hopeful rather than mourning."

Petty died suddenly on Monday at the age of 66. In the aftermath, Sheryl Crow dedicated her concert at the espnW Women + Sports Summit to Petty, and Coldplay covered one of his biggest hits, "Free Fallin.'"

The Younger Now singer began "Wildflowers" by blending in with her band of string players, as the lyrics served as a glorious sendoff to Petty and an uplifting message that he's at peace: "You belong among the wildflowers/ You belong somewhere close to me/ Far away from your troubles and worries/ You belong somewhere you feel free."

"You ready, dad?" she asked Billy Ray before belting out the final refrain and sending chills throughout the audience.
