Steven Soderbergh drops trailer for mysterious new HBO project MOSAIC

After first hinting at this mysterious project a couple years ago, Steven Soderbergh has finally revealed the trailer for HBO’s MOSAIC.

In conversation with film critic Elvis Mitchell during the Future of StoryTelling Festival, the award-winning Soderbergh (Traffic, Behind the Candelabra) debuted the first look of the… app? Yes, it really is an interactive app. Or, rather, an “interactive storytelling experience” in the form of an app that allows viewers to choose both the point of view of the story and how it goes — like a “build your own adventure” book for adults.

MOSAIC is a branching narrative piece,” said Soderbergh. “While branching narratives have been around forever, technology now allows, I hope, for a more elegant, intuitive form of engagement than used to be possible.”

Presented by PodOp, MOSAIC was developed for HBO by Soderbergh, Casey Silver, and writer Ed Solomon. The app will be available for free download beginning in November, followed by a six-part miniseries on the network in January 2018.

MOSAIC stars Sharon Stone alongside Garrett Hedlund, Frederick Weller, Beau Bridges, Paul Reubens, Jennifer Ferrin, Devin Ratray, Michael Cerveris, James Ransone, Jeremy Bobb, and Maya Kazan. You can check out the entire trailer above.
