The X-Files season 11 premiere date is sooner than you think

The X-Files is returning for its 11th season pretty much as fast as possible given Fox’s previous pledge that the sci-fi hit wouldn’t debut until January of next year.

Mulder and Scully’s adventures will resume Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m., the network announced Wednesday. So that’s pretty much right after the New Year’s holiday… obviously. The show is being partnered with Ryan Murphy’s new procedural drama 9-1-1 which boasts a trio of rock star TV leads with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Connie Britton.

The new X-Files season will be 10 episodes and if we want to be technical about it Fox is not calling the next round “season 11.” Rather Fox is dubbing it the “second chapter of The X-Files event series” for some reason. They avoided calling the six episodes aired in 2016 “season 10” either. So The X-Files is just an ongoing “event” with “chapters” now — until it’s not and concludes once and for all… which could be next year too as star Gillian Anderson has hinted that she might be quitting the aliens-and-flashlights gig (despite creator Chris Carter’s plan to end the upcoming episodes on another cliffhanger).
