Bill Maher: Al Franken shouldn't be 'lumped in' with Roy Moore

Senator Al Franken is the latest public figure accused of sexual misconduct. But, according to Bill Maher, there’s a big different between someone like Franken and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore (accused by nine women of sexual harassment and assault) and President Donald Trump (previously accused of similar behavior).

Franken “doesn’t deserve” to be “lumped in with Roy Moore or Kevin Spacey or Harvey Weinstein or Donald Trump,” Maher said during his Real Time monologue on Friday night. “Donald Trump calls his accusers liars, threatens to sue them, did long riffs at his rallies where he would say that they were too ugly for him to assault. Plus with Al Franken, we’re talking about one incident. Trump has 16 accusers. Roy Moore has nine. Roy Moore spent more time chatting up young girls at the mall than Santa Claus.”

Los Angeles radio host Leeann Tweeden posted a photo of Franken appearing to grope her breasts while she slept during a 2006 USO tour. She also accused him of kissing her without her consent during a rehearsal for the same tour. Franken apologized to Tweeden both publicly and in a separate letter sent to her that Tweeden read aloud on The View.

Maher called the claims against Franken “very disturbing” and joked, “I was so shaken I called Bill Cosby to see if he had anything to calm me down. I know Bill has stuff like that.”

The number of Moore’s accusers has risen to nine since The Washington Post published its initial report about four women claiming he sexually pursued them as teenagers when he was in his 30s. Moore dismissed the allegations as “lies and smears,” though many Republicans called for him to drop out of the senatorial race.

“How about another #MeToo campaign where it’s, ‘I can tell two unlike things apart’? Me too! I know the difference between a man who once acted like a dick and a man who is a dick. Me too!” Maher said, presumably, in reference to Trump. “I know the difference between someone who behaved like a high schooler and someone who targeted high schoolers. Me too!” he added of Moore.
