This year’s special Christmas episode of the time-travel show Doctor Who will see the departure of Peter Capaldi’s version of the beloved Time Lord; the arrival of Jodie Whittaker’s iteration; the return of Pearl Mackie’s Bill Potts; David Bradley costarring as the First Doctor; and a starring role for longtime Who writer (and Sherlock actor) Mark Gatiss; and it’s directed by Rachel Talalay, who was responsible for 2015’s “Heaven Sent,” widely regarded by Whovians as a high point of the show’s modern era.

Plus? It’s the last episode overseen by executive producer Steven Moffat who, in the course of the show’s production, handed off the series to new showrunner Chris Chibnall, so he could be on hand for the Capaldi-to-Whittaker regeneration. It was also announced Friday that BBC America’s Christmas Day broadcast of the episode, which is titled “Twice Upon a Time,” will be followed by a new special, Doctor Who: Farewell to Peter Capaldi, which looks back at the actor’s time in the TARDIS.

In short, we pity the editor who had to try and encapsulate all, or even some, of that in the episode’s just-released trailer, even if he was able to utilize bigger-on-the-inside Gallifreyan technology.

The Doctor Who Christmas special premieres on BBC America, Dec. 25, 9pm ET. The episode is also being screened in theaters by Fathom Events for one night, Dec. 27.
