Here and Now trailer teases True Blood creator's Trump-era HBO series

Alan Ball, the creator of HBO’s True Blood and Cinemax’s Banshee, is back with a new show for the Home Box Office network — one that focuses on a progressive, multi-ethnic family dealing with issues of a Trump-led America. In the new Here and Now trailer, we meet said family.

Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter are the most recognizable names from this HBO series, which also stars Jerrika Hinton, Daniel Zovatto, Raymond Lee, Sosie Bacon, Andy Bean, Joe Williamson, and Peter Macdissi.

“So much hatred going around,” Robbins says in character. “It feels like the world is falling apart.”

The trailer highlights scenes of Ashley, a black woman (Hinton), getting patted down by a police officer in a bathroom, an older man walking down the street with a firearm strapped to his back, and Malcolm (Williamson) noting how “the whole country’s a mess right now.”

The dark comedy highlights two families. One consists of a philosophy professor (Robbins) and his wife (Hunter); their adopted children from Vietnam, Liberia, and Colombia; and their sole biological child. The other is a contemporary Muslim family, headed by a psychiatrist who’s treating one of the kids.

The added intrigue is that one of these characters, Zovatto’s Ramon, starts seeing things the others can’t. “Something is trying to communicate with me,” he says.

Here and Now — executive-produced by Ball, Macdissi, and David Knoller — will premiere the first of its 10-episode season Sunday, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
