Legion season 2 footage debuts in FX's 2018 trailer

Ready to have your mind blown… again? Beauty and the Beast‘s Dan Stevens is back as the psychokinetic David Haller in fresh Legion season 2 footage, hailing from a trailer for FX’s new shows premiering this year.

“I wanted to be normal,” David says. “Any of this look normal to you?”

We left off with the Summerland crew after David seemingly defeated the Shadow King, which often took the form of Aubrey Plaza’s Lenny. In reality, the leach latched onto a new host, Jemaine Clement’s Oliver, as they hit the road for “someplace warm.” Meanwhile, David was captured and carted off by a mysterious floating device.

In the brief flashes of clips from Legion season 2, which begin at the 1:02 timestamp in the video above, David doesn’t stay lost for long. Syd (Rachel Keller) and Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris) return to his side, Plaza and Clement tease the possibility of a new musical number, and Cary (Bill Irwin) advises us to open our minds as more cryptic imagery appears.

Replacing Wonder Woman‘s Saïd Taghmaoui, Homeland’s Navid Negahban will portray the Shadow King (a.k.a. Amahl Farouk) in the new episodes, premiering later this year.

“Dan Stevens and Aubrey Plaza. These two were kind of babysitting me,” Negahban told The Huffington Post earlier this year. “Aubrey was guiding me [on] what was the journey of the character. A beautiful, sweet group of people to work with. I just love them. They took me in, I don’t know, like an orphan, and they gave me a home.”

“Lenny and Oliver are being used by this character, Amahl Farouk,” executive producer Noah Hawley told EW. “He wears their faces from time to time. It’s his way of hiding himself. I had this thought of, ‘What does Freddy Krueger do during the day?’ I thought it was interesting, the idea of the downtime of these characters. They’re not being used and so what is reality like for them? They’re being placated, that they’re in some place beautiful that may not actually be a physical space, it may be a mental space, like an astral plane. They have everything they need, they’re by the pool, it’s beautiful, but at a certain point, there’s part of them that realizes that they’re just trapped in this reality they don’t have any control over.”

Also highlighted in FX’s trailer of 2018 shows are footage from Pose (Ryan Murphy’s historic LGBTQ drama), Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans, anthology series Trust with Brendan Fraser and Donald Sutherland, and new episodes of Atlanta, The Americans, Baskets, Archer, and Snowfall.
