Trump slams 'insecure' Oprah Winfrey over 60 Minutes report

President Donald Trump has changed his tune on speculation that Oprah Winfrey will run against him in the 2020 election.

Following Winfrey’s report on America’s political divide on Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes, Trump slammed the media mogul as “insecure” and said he wanted her to run for president so that she could be “exposed and defeated.”

“Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes,” tweeted Trump, 71, at 11:28 p.m. “The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!”

The report was a follow-up on Winfrey’s September investigation into America’s political divide over Trump. Speaking to a panel of Trump voters and non-Trump voters in the battleground state of Michigan, Winfrey sought to understand their thoughts on his presidency and direction of the country one year after he took the oath of office.

In the wake of Winfrey’s headline-grabbing speech about the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements at the Golden Globes in January, many stars — including Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg — called on Winfrey to consider running for the White House. Days later, Trump addressed the speculation, telling the press, “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah.”

Trump, who in 1999 thought Winfrey would be a good running mate, added: “I know her very well. You know, I did one of her last shows. She had Donald Trump — this was before politics — her last week, and she had Donald Trump and my family. It was very nice.”

The president continued: “No, I like Oprah. I don’t think she’s going to run… I know her very well.”

Winfrey has been clear that she has no intention of running for president. “Because if God actually wanted me to run, wouldn’t God kind of tell me?” she said in a 60 Minutes Overtime clip separate from Sunday’s report. “And I haven’t heard that.”
