Drag Race champ Bob the Drag Queen co-hosting The Trixie & Katya Show as Katya recovers

As the latter half of Viceland’s The Trixie & Katya Show continues her year-long recovery from health issues, the RuPaul’s Drag Race sisterhood is coming together to support one of its own.

The network announced Friday that Drag Race season 8 champion Bob the Drag Queen will temporarily take over cohosting duties from Katya, real name Brian McCook, on the weekly talk program’s final five episodes of its inaugural season.

Trixie Mattel, who originally competed against Katya on season 7 of RuPaul’s Drage Race, co-launched the Viceland series on Nov. 15, 2017 after finding success with their YouTube variety series UNHhhh.

“I am so excited to be guesting,” Bob said in a press release. “I’m neither Trixie or Katya, but it is Black History Month so…”

Viceland executive producer and SVP of development, Nomi Ernst Leidner, added: “Everyone continues to support Brian on his path to getting healthy. While we will miss Katya dearly, we’re are very excited to offer fans more episodes of The Trixie & Katya Show with another powerhouse from the Drag Race roster.”

On Jan. 15, Katya announced her planned break from entertaining in a lengthy Instagram Live post, in which she discussed (in French) her past struggles with substance abuse.

“I’m ok. I’m not dying because I want to live,” her statement, translated by users on Reddit, reads. “But I need to take vacations, like a normal person. The people who are listening will understand, can understand. And that’s all I wanted to say, that’s all…. I don’t have a drug crisis right now, because I’m sober. I’m taking care of myself today. And that is the reason why I’m happy.”

Bob the Drag Queen’s first episode on The Trixie & Katya Show premieres Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Viceland. Watch preview footage of Bob’s debut above.
