Jennifer Lopez's Bye Bye Birdie Live! for NBC postponed again

What's the story, morning glory? NBC's Bye Bye Birdie Live! has been postponed once again.

EW has confirmed reports that the Jennifer Lopez-helmed live musical has been delayed until 2019 at the earliest. The production has faced difficulties in coordinating with Lopez's busy schedule, the same reason for which the show was first pushed from its planned premiere in December 2017. Lopez currently does double duty for NBC, hosting and producing World of Dance and starring in Shades of Blue.

Two of the show's executive producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, are also doing double-duty with their production of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, NBC's Easter event, which made things more difficult to get Birdie off the ground. The network hopes to stage another live presentation for the 2018 holiday season in Bye Bye Birdie's stead.

Lopez had previously expressed her investment in the show both on and off the stage. "It'll be authentic, it'll be colorful, and we want to just push the envelope of how great these live television musicals can be," she said. "So I'm excited to take it on as a producer, and as a role."

Lopez is slated to executive produce with her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, alongside Zadan and Meron. Jerry Mitchell and Alex Rudzinski were previously announced as directors, and Harvey Fierstein will update the book for television.
