Nick Offerman is a Warlock daddy for Amazon's Good Omens

Here's a good omen for Neil Gaiman's Amazon series. Nick Offerman, the star of Parks and Recreation and Megan Mullally's heart, has boarded Good Omens, the six-part television event based on the book Gaiman wrote with Terry Pratchett.

Offerman will play the U.S. Ambassador and father to Warlock, the child mistaken for the Antichrist. Like the book, the series follows the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant), who aren't exactly thrilled when the apocalypse and Final Judgement are on the horizon. Adding to their woes is the fact that the Antichrist child brought to Earth to kick it all off is M.I.A. That's where Offerman's character comes into play.

"There may not be anyone alive who can deadpan a line quite as well as Nick Offerman," Gaiman said in a statement Tuesday. "He's a terrific performer, and has to say a lot of things in Good Omens that are humanly impossible to deliver with a straight face. Fortunately, Nick is not entirely human. We are very lucky to have him."

Offerman added, "If you had told me when I first read Good Omens in the early '90s that I would one day visit South Africa to giggle with Neil Gaiman at laptop-screened footage of Dr. Who and David Frost dancing because I was assaying a role in the adaptation of said book, I would likely have offered to purchase some of whatever you must be smoking. But here I am, still giggling at the luck of it."

Gaiman had been teasing a special guest star for Good Omens on social media, and the acclaimed author and series showrunner finally revealed the casting on Tuesday. Gaiman shared an image of Offerman, who was "temporarily beardless" and "testing local drums for a 2 year old for volume+suitability (none of them were loud enough)."

The cast is filled with Jon Hamm as Archangel Gabriel, Derek Jacobi as Metatron (a.k.a. the Voice of God), Mireille Enos as War (of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse), Yusuf Gatewood as Horseman Famine, Lourdes Faberes as Horseman Pollution (she retired Pestilence after the invention of penicillin), and Anna Maxwell Martin as demon Beelzebub — among others.

Good Omens is expected to launch on Amazon Prime in the U.S. and BBC Two in the U.K. in 2019. Series director Douglas Mackinnon executive produces with Gaiman, Pratchett, Chris Sussman, Rob Wilkins, and Rod Brown.
