Lawmaker trying to ban The Bachelor star Arie Luyendyk Jr. from Minnesota

The Bachelor‘s Arie Luyendyk Jr. angered plenty of people with his controversial decision to propose to Becca Kufrin, dump her with cameras rolling, and then reunite with and propose to his runner-up, Lauren Burnham. And one of those outraged fans is Minnesota state representative Drew Christensen, who wants to make sure Arie knows he’s no longer welcome in Becca’s home state.

On Tuesday, March 6, Christensen mobilized his followers by offering to draft a bill banning Arie from the state in exchange for 1,000 retweets. In a follow-up, he offered to invite the newly crowned Bachelorette (a fellow alum of Christensen’s high school, Prior Lake) to be his guest to the Minnesota State of the State Address for 10,000 retweets.

Twitter came through in a big way for both goals, and on Wednesday, Christensen shared both Becca’s invitation and the bill to ban Luyendyk. The bill reads: “The state of Minnesota hereby adopts a policy of zero tolerance of Arie Luyendyk, Jr. from season 22 of The Bachelor. It is a state policy that every person in the state has a right to live free from the presence of Arie Luyendyk, Jr. in the state.”

In an interview with the Pioneer Press, Christensen admitted he didn’t expect the bill to pass. However, he does believe it was a positive exercise: “This is a very good lesson in civic engagement. It’s very easy for people to interact and engage and get through to their elected officials on social media. It’s a valuable tool — I think that’s the real lesson here. That, and how engaged Minnesotans are willing to be.”
